Pin a fact that the story will reuse
Our chat tools include pinned memories for information you want to retain as context. Write a concise fact and name the participant it concerns. Keep your persona distinct from the AI character.
Mara is the adult observatory guide. My character, Ellis, brought the blue notebook. Neither has opened the parcel. The roof must stay closed until the rain stops.
The note records the situation. A request for two-sentence replies belongs in an instruction about style, not a long transcript stored as a scene fact.
Set how the character should respond
Use custom instructions for preferences such as concise dialogue, one question at a time or not deciding your character's actions. Check that they fit the definition rather than competing with it.
If the profile asks for detailed narration and your instruction asks for a one-line answer, decide which you want. Change that preference and try the next exchange before rewriting several controls at once.
Update the note when events change
- Identify the detail a response missed.
- Look for an old or contradictory fact in the retained context.
- Replace it with the current situation.
- Continue with one specific question or action.
Once the parcel is open or the rain ends, revise the earlier note. A retained detail helps supply context; it does not guarantee perfect recall in every response. Save writing you need before deleting or resetting the conversation.
Use fictional context, not sensitive records
A memory control is not a secure vault for credentials, identity documents or payment information. Retain only the details needed for the scene.
Use recap examples for writing continuity, privacy settings for visibility questions and technical checks for a message that will not send.
